Troubleshooting

Help with connection problems, missing results, and incomplete text.

I cannot connect

Public sign-in is not available yet. The server address shown elsewhere on the site is a placeholder. Check Connect Crito for setup status before you try again.

My search found no cases

Try the case name or citation if you know it. For a topic search, describe the issue in different words or widen the date range.

If you specified a court, give its full name. For example, use “Supreme Court of Canada” instead of “Supreme Court.”

Check Coverage. No result means that Crito did not find a match; it does not prove that the case does not exist.

My search found no legislation

Check the title and jurisdiction. Only federal, Ontario, and British Columbia legislation is supported. Try a shorter form of the title, then ask your assistant to read the matching result.

If Crito finds a title but cannot read it, use the official source directly.

I received only part of a document

A long decision may arrive in parts. Ask your assistant to continue from the last paragraph returned, or to read the part relevant to your question.

For a long statute, Crito may return a table of contents. Choose a section and ask your assistant to read it.

If the result reports missing text or paragraphs, another request may not recover them. Open the source or find another copy. See Check your sources.

The service returned an error

Wait a short time, then try the request again. If it still fails, keep the message and note which request failed. Do not treat a failed request as a search with no matches.
